Certificates of Origin (COO) are international trade documents, which certify that products in a certain export consignment are wholly obtained, processed, manufactured, or produced in a specific country. If you run a business in Australia, you must know about four different types of COO. The section below will introduce you to them.
AANZFTA
AANZFTA stands for Y ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area. You will need this Certificate of Origin when sending consignments to ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries. Showing the certificate will eliminate or decrease duty rates levied on the products and tariffs. You must note that to obtain the certificate, you must be a registered exporter.
To get the certificate and enjoy preferential tariffs and duty rates, you must deal with products you have obtained or manufactured entirely in Australia. You can mention that a particular item has originated in Australia even if it has been produced partly in the country. However, for that, there should be a change in the tariff classification of the third country. This may happen when the production takes place in Australia or there are inputs from the ASEAN countries.
You can export your products to ASEAN countries even without an AANZFTA Certificate of origin. However, you will need to pay hefty import duties. This will increase the MRP of the products and prevent buyers looking for reasonably priced products from purchasing them.
TAFTA
TAFTA stands for Thailand Australia Free Trade Agreement. You will need the certificate when exporting goods into Thailand. You can eliminate or decrease the duty rates and tariffs associated with your products by showcasing this certificate. What makes you eligible for the certificate? Firstly, you must be a registered exporter. Additionally, to get a TAFTA Certificate of origin, you must deal with products originating either in Thailand or Australia.
KAFTA
KAFTA stands for Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement. Get this certificate if you want to export goods to Korea and want to enjoy the elimination or reduction of duty rates and tariffs. To be eligible for the certificate, you must deal with items originating either in Australia or Korea. Other than that, you must also be a registered exporter. If you are an Australian exporter, you will get a KAFTA Certificate of Origin for:
- Products produced entirely or obtained in Australia
- Products produced completely in Australia using materials ‘originating’ as per the rules of origin or ROO
- Products made in Australia following inputs from other nations
JAEPA
JAEPA stands for Japan–Australia Economic Partnership Agreement. All rules for getting the certificate remain the same for Australian exporters. The only difference is that in this case, the importing country is Japan.
Final Words
